History: | The hill takes its name from the Verendrye Tablet, a lead marker discovered there in 1913 by schoolchildren. The tablet was buried in 1743 by the Verendrye brothers, who were exploring the region for the French government. It is now on display at the State Historical Society museum in Pierre. |
